Safety Notice: Fall Detection

SkiCoach's fall detection is an assistive feature, not a certified safety device. It detects high-G impacts (5G+ acceleration with 3.5 rad/s rotation, dual confirmation) and prompts you to confirm you're okay. It may not detect all falls, and false positives can occur. It is not a substitute for proper safety equipment, ski patrol, or emergency services. Always ski within your ability.

Does SkiCoach work indoors?▼
Yes. SkiCoach has a dedicated Indoor Training Mode. It uses your phone's barometer to detect individual runs (descent + lift/conveyor) and scores your technique using accelerometer and gyroscope only — no GPS needed. Supported venues include Ski Dubai, Snow Abu Dhabi, SNOWworld Landgraaf, and Alpincenter Bottrop. Enter a facility code in the app to activate indoor mode.
Does SkiCoach work without internet?▼
Yes, 100%. All sensor processing, scoring, and audio coaching happens on your device. Internet is only needed to download the app initially.
How accurate is the technique score?▼
The score is a relative indicator. Expect ±5-10 points variation between runs due to conditions, phone placement, and slope difficulty. Most valuable for tracking your own progress over time.
Where should I put my phone?▼
Front pants pocket (thigh area) gives best results. Chest pocket works too. Avoid backpacks – too much independent movement.
Can I export runs to Strava?▼
Yes! Export any run as GPX, then upload to Strava manually. Also available: CSV for spreadsheets and JSON for developers.
How long does battery last?▼
Four adaptive modes: Full (>50%): ~4 hours. Balanced (20-50%): ~6 hours. Eco (10-20%): 8+ hours. Emergency (<10%): GPS + fall detection only. Cold weather reduces battery life – keep phone warm.
Does it work with screen locked?▼
Partially. GPS tracking (speed, distance, route) works with screen locked. However, iOS and Android restrict motion sensor access when screen is off – so technique analysis requires screen on. Tip: Lower brightness and disable auto-lock for full AI coaching while saving battery.
Is there a subscription?▼
No — there is no subscription anywhere in the product. Season Pass is €19.99 for one winter (1 Oct – 30 Apr) and does not auto-renew; no card is kept on file. PRO Lifetime (€39.99) and ELITE Lifetime (€69.99) are one-time purchases. The FREE tier is free forever with 2 runs per day.
What languages are supported?▼
English, German, French, and Italian – both for the app interface and audio coaching.
Does fall detection call emergency services?▼
No. When a fall is detected, you get an "Are you OK?" prompt. The app can alert your pre-set emergency contact but does not automatically dial emergency services.
Which sensors does the app use?▼
GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope, and barometer. Standard sensors in all modern smartphones – no external hardware needed.
Does it work for snowboarding?▼

Yes — since version 2.0 (25 September 2026). Snowboard mode is a dedicated mode, not an adapted ski mode: wider-arc turn detection, board-specific scoring weights and snowboard-aware coaching phrases.

It is a €9.99 add-on for PRO Lifetime users and included at no cost in ELITE Lifetime. Fall detection and speed tracking remain free for everyone, on skis or a board.

Which countries are supported?▼
SkiCoach works anywhere with GPS signal for outdoor skiing. For indoor venues, GPS is not required — the app uses barometer and motion sensors instead. Available globally on iOS and Android stores. No region locks.
How do I delete my data?▼
Settings → Delete All Data. Since data is only on your device, uninstalling the app also deletes everything.
